Every October 19, Yorktown, Virginia celebrates the important American Revolutionary War victory of 1781 with parades, performances and ceremonies. This event, called Yorktown Victory Day, marks the battle that helped win independence for the United States.

In this unit, you’ll find a short video, hands-on classroom activities, art and craft projects and reflection ideas to help students learn about the victory and join in the spirit of the celebration. Use these resources to create a Yorktown Victory Day in the classroom, and give students a chance to honor the past while sharing their art, writing and projects with others.
