Award decisions are made by museum staff on a rolling basis. Decisions are made within five business days of receiving the completed application, at which point applicants will be notified and the program booked.

Based on the funding available, awards are based on the following criteria:

1. How the program meets specific needs of the students
2. Demonstrated need

After submitting your application, museum staff will contact you to verify that it has been received and ask any follow-up questions, if needed.

Field Trips

• Student admission costs for field trips or classroom outreach
• No charge for school staff admission that fit into the recommended 1 to 10 ratio of adult to students.
• Note: Additional chaperones accompanying the class on a traditional field trip are not covered by support funding and will be required to purchase admission at the Front Desk when they arrive.

Transportation (Traditional Field Trip Only)

• School Buses
  • If school bus transportation is awarded, reimbursement will be made directly to the school district transportation office after the field trip has occurred and an invoice has been submitted to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. It is the responsibility of the teacher to make this information available to the school district’s transportation office and inform them they must submit an invoice to JYF for payment. Normal reimbursement is $1.50 per mile.
• Charter Buses
  • If charter bus transportation is awarded, we will offer a reimbursement of up to $250 per bus to help support the costs. If this is awarded, the school will need to submit a receipt and invoice for reimbursement after the field trip.
• Reimbursement for either school or charter buses will be for the amount listed in the reward letter after the field trip has occurred and the necessary documentation received.

  • Include school data on free or reduced-price meals, Title 1 status, etc.

Funding is limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications are reviewed as they are submitted, however, you must apply for funding at least one month prior to the educational program you are seeking. All funding must be pre-approved prior to the date of your program.

Current K12 educators and administrators are eligible to apply for funding for their schools. Parents or PTA members may not apply for the funding on behalf of the schools.

Funding supports one grade level per school per year; however funding is not guaranteed for the same school each year.
