The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s Student Engagement Committee acts as an advisory board for aspects of future exhibits, events and initiatives and as a creator of peer programming for Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.

Through their work as advisors and program developers, Student Engagement Committee members represent youth interests to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, which values their expertise, experiences and diverse perspectives on history and museums.

Important details

Members must be between the ages of 16 and 18 years old and be current high school students or participate in a secondary homeschool program in one of the following localities:

The Student Engagement Committee recruitment process has both an online application and an in-person or virtual interview. The application period is open until September 16. Interviews will be scheduled September 10-16, 2026, with notification to selected participants on September 18. 

Student Engagement Committee members who attend a public high school will have an opportunity to earn a Civics Diploma Seal.

Upon successful completion of the 2026-2027 Student Engagement Committee, members will receive a $700 stipend. Eligible members are invited to apply to participate in the program in the future.

In-person meetings & field trips

The 2026 Student Engagement Committee in-person meeting dates are Wednesdays - September 23, October 7 & 21, November 4 & 18, and December 2 & 16.

The 2027 in-person meeting dates are Wednesdays - January 6 & 20, February 3 & 17, March 3, 17 & 31, April 14 & 28, May 12 & 26, June 9 & 23.

All meetings are 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Jamestown Settlement.

Field trip dates are November 7, 2026, January 9 and March 6, 2027.

Student Engagement Committee members will assist with the implementation of community event at one of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation's museums, Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Opportunities for this include but are not limited to Family Frights - October 23 & 24 and the Taquitock Festival - November 7.
