The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s Student Advisory Council acts as an advisory board for aspects of future exhibits, events and initiatives and as a creator of peer programming for Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
Through their work as advisors and program developers, Student Advisory Council members represent Gen Z interests to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, which values their expertise, experiences and diverse perspectives on history and museums.
Student Advisory Council applications
We have closed applications for the 2025-26 Student Advisory Council. Applications for the 2026-27 Student Advisory Council will open in September 2026.
Important details
Members must be between the ages of 16 and 18 years old and be a current high school student or participate in a secondary homeschool program in one of the following localities:
• James City County
• York County
• Gloucester County
• Charles City County
• New Kent County
• City of Williamsburg
• City of Newport News
• City of Hampton
• City of Poquoson
The Student Advisory Council recruitment process has both an online application and an in-person or virtual interview.
Student Advisory Council members who attend a public high school will have an opportunity to earn a Civics Diploma Seal.
Upon successful completion of the 2025-2026 Student Advisory Council, members will receive a $700 stipend and eligible members are invited to apply to participate in the program in the future.
In-person meetings & field trips
The 2025 Student Advisory Council in-person meeting dates are Wednesdays - October 29, November 12, and December 3 & 17.
The 2026 in-person meeting dates are Wednesdays - January 7 & 21, February 4 & 18, March 4 & 18, April 1 & 15, May 6 & 20, June 3 & 17.
All meetings are 4-6 p.m. at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
Field trips include a visit to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture on Saturday, November 8, 2025, and the Chrysler Museum of Art on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
