March 6 - May 18, 2026 • American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
In collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, go behind the scenes for a look at captivating costumes from the hit television series “Outlander.”
Featuring an exclusive collection of 26 hand-selected pieces from Seasons 1–4 assembled for the museum exhibition, travel back in time to unravel the show’s origins through the acclaimed costume designs of Terry Dresbach.
Weaving together continents and centuries into a richly crafted world, the exclusive exhibition showcases costumes spanning postwar 1940s Scotland, the upheaval of the 18th-century Highlands, Parisian opulence, the journey to early America, and the cultural shifts of the 1960s.
Dresbach's work defines the Outlander visual identity. Her designs are meticulously researched and historically grounded, while remaining emotionally expressive and pivotal to the visual storytelling.
Revealing how iconic fashions become a powerful storytelling device.
This exhibition reveals how clothing becomes a powerful storytelling device, illuminating identity, class, culture, craftsmanship and the enduring interplay between past and present. Together, they chart a continuous history of how people express who they are, and who they might become, through what they wear.
Among the garments, the exhibition features the dramatic 18th-century wedding attire worn by main characters Jamie and Claire Fraser in Season 1. The exhibition showcases Claire Fraser’s iconic red dress and accessories, which Dresbach designed for the Versailles scenes in Season 2. Also from Season 2, the exhibition will include Claire Fraser’s Parisian 1740s Dior-inspired coat, skirt, hat and accessories, as well as Jamie Fraser’s black satin coat, waistcoat, stock and breeches. Costumes designed for Brianna Randall Fraser in Seasons 3-4, Jamie and Claire’s daughter who was raised in the 20th century before following her mother back in time to the 18th century, are also on display.
Highlighting the remarkable artistry of museum tailors in meticulously dressing historical interpreters to accurately depict people living in early America, OUTLANDER: Costumes Woven in Time features their work in outfitting living-history staff at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
