'Fresh Views of the American Revolution' Special Exhibition Information for Student Artists

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is excited to showcase artwork from Virginia student artists in grades 7-12 for display in an upcoming special exhibition, "Fresh Views of the American Revolution," opening at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown in October 2025.

In advance of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation will showcase art from America’s Bicentennial commemoration to inspire new reflections on Revolutionary principles from contemporary students and professional artists.

General Instructions

Artwork Specifications

Please confirm that the submitted dimensions for your work are accurate for your ready-to-hang art.
Dimensions must be accurate for the exhibition design team to plan the spacing of the installation.
Your art should be ready to hang with hardware installed. (D-rings preferred instead of wire.)
The framed dimensions are needed. See image below for how to measure.
All works on paper should be glazed, framed and ready to hang with hardware installed. (D-rings preferred instead of wire.) Contact us if assistance is needed.
Two-dimensional framed artwork or textiles may not exceed 40” in any direction including frame.
Artwork may not exceed 40 lbs.

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation will not be responsible for the preparation, mounting, framing or installation of hardware to any works of art. Work that is not ready to exhibit on delivery will be eliminated from the showcase.

Once Accepted

JYF will install the artwork and accompanying label in the exhibition gallery. All two-dimensional artwork must be ready to hang. JYF will not provide hardware for hanging.
A signed W-9 form will be used to create a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the artist and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation outlining participation in the exhibition. A signed MOA will be required for processing of the $100 honorarium.
Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of their works on the dates specified in the Artist Submission Calendar.
"Fresh Views of the American Revolution" will be held at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, 200 Water St., Yorktown, VA 23690. The exhibition will run from October 18, 2025 – May 3, 2026.

Artist Showcase Calendar

April 15, 2025 – Notification to artists and Virginia W-9 form sent to selected participants.
May 1, 2025 – Deadline for signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with parent or legal guardian's signature.
September 29 – October 1, 2025 – Artwork can be delivered to address provided.
October 18, 2025 – May 3, 2026 – Exhibition dates.
Late October 2025 (date/time TBD) – Artist reception.
Week of May 18, 2026 – Pick up artwork.
